HIGH QUALITY FILET MIGNON

HOW TO GRILL FILET MIGNON

Filet mignon a steak cut of high quality. A filet mignon is a very thick cut taken from the tenderloin. This makes the filet mignon extremely lean, but also very tasty and very tender. While not as flavorful as other cuts, the filet mignon is so tender that it seems to just melt in your mouth, making it very tasty and a very popular choice in steaks. A typical filet mignon is usually two by three inches. Filets are very expensive by the pound although a filet mignon is typically only about six to eight ounces.

When you are grilling filets, there is very little that you have to do, so a filet mignon is one of the easiest cuts of steak to grill. There is simply less preparation need, less work, less time and even not a lot of seasoning needed for grilling a filet mignon. That’s because a filet mignon is already great as it is so it will not require a lot of seasoning. If you season a filet mignon too much, you even risk hiding the true flavor of it. So all you really need to season your filet mignon are salt and pepper.

You can start by rubbing a lot of cracked black pepper on your filet mignon. You then take a piece of bacon and wrap it around your filet mignon, using a soaked toothpick to keep it in place. The bacon will infuse some flavor in your filet mignon and will also keep it moist while grilling. The next step is to let your bacon-wrapped filet mignon sit on the counter for about 45 minutes to allow it to warm to room temperature. If you grill your filet mignon straight from the fridge, the outside will be burnt well before the inside is cooked.

The next step will be to pre-heat the grill where you will be cooking your filet mignon. When it’s really hot, put the filet mignon on direct heat and sear both sides for about three to four minutes. Now remove the filet mignon from direct heat and salt it to your taste by rubbing in kosher salt or sea salt on it. After salting, put the filet mignon back on the grill and allow it to cook for an additional six to ten minutes on indirect heat. During the entire grilling process, make sure you do not pierce your filet mignon. So make sure you use tongs instead of turning forks when grilling your filet mignon.

To grill your filet mignon to perfection, use a digital thermometer to check the correct temperature. If you want your filet mignon rare, aim for 130 degrees, foe medium rare, at least 135 degrees and for medium rare, you’ll want at least 145 degrees. When you are done, take the filet mignon from the grill and let it rest for fifteen minutes before you eat it.

If you want a much richer filet mignon, you can slice it open and stuff it. Popular stuffing includes onions, mushrooms and a variety of cheese. For those who like their filet mignons well-done or at least medium done, it can be sliced or “butterflied” to make it thinner.
